Mechanical Design Engineer

JO Hunter is seeking an energetic Mechanical Design Engineer to join our clients team. The successful applicant will be responsible for driving engineering designs from start to finish, from concept and scoping to calculations and design modelling.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering,
• 5 years of experience,
• and be proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Inventor, or Solidworks.

Responsibilities

• Perform design calculations to ensure safe design and compliance with Australian Standards
• Produce design and engineering concepts including required additional information i.e., welding standards, tolerances etc, following drawing registration and control procedures
• Check drawings and calculations of designs generated by colleagues for accuracy and practicality
• Site travel to provide engineering services, such as 3D scanning, DEM modelling of chutes and transfer points
• Perform root cause investigation of failed components and generate technical reports

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering discipline
• Minimum 5 years of Mechanical experience and well versed in Australian standards
• Experience with the following Software: AutoCAD, Inventor, or Solidworks
• Engineering tools: Mathcad, Ansys – Linear/Non-linear, Microstation, STAAD. Pro
• Varied engineering exposure: lifting tools, transport frames, planetary drives and gear boxes, vibrating equipment, shafts and bearings
• Member of Engineers Australia, possibly with RPEQ status, with a detailed path toward CP Eng. status
• Collaborative team player with can-do attitude and curious mindset
• Willingness to learn, with an ability to mentor junior engineers
